GSSL is very happy to inform you that the GSSL public lecture will be held on 18th June 2024, at 02:00 PM (SLST) @ Auditorium Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB),

and Online via Zoom.


Prof. Charitha Pattiaratchi (The University of Western Australia), will deliver the lecture titled “Oceanographic processes around Sri Lanka”. The EC of GSSL cordially invites members of GSSL and those who are interested to join the GSSL Public Lecture.


Charitha Pattiaratchi is Professor of Coastal Oceanography at the University of Western Australia where he has been for more than 35 years. He leads the IMOS ocean glider facility. His research encompasses coastal ocean physical processes and their influence on climatic, biological, and geological processes in estuaries, the nearshore (beach) zone, and the continental shelf region. He uses field measurements, remote sensing, and computer modelling as the tools of his research. He has published over 500 articles which include more than 230 in peer-reviewed international journals. Over the course of his career, he has developed a world-renowned research and training program for early career researchers and graduate students in coastal oceanography at The University of Western Australia. To date, he has supervised more than 300 people including direct supervision of 277 dissertations.
