Applications are invited from Sri Lankan geoscientists who are under 35 years of age at the time of application for the P.G. Cooray Memorial Medal.

The Medal and Cash Prize will be awarded to the most outstanding contributor to the Earth Sciences of Sri Lanka for work carried out during the period 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025.

Applicants are requested to submit copies of their theses, dissertations, publications, patents, or other relevant scientific contributions, together with a curriculum vitae (CV) and a document confirming their age (Passport or National Identity Card), to the Secretary of the Geological Society of Sri Lanka (GSSL).

Criteria for the P.G. Cooray Memorial Medal

1. Applicants must be Sri Lankan citizens and under 35 years of age at the time of application.

2. Field: Earth Sciences, (with the minimum of BSc or above) 

3. The award will be given to the most outstanding contributor to Earth Sciences in Sri Lanka for the specified period. Contributions may include:

   • A thesis or dissertation at BSc, MSc, MPhil, or PhD level

   • Publications in recognized journals

   • Patents or equivalent scientific contributions

4. If no suitable candidate is identified, the award will not be made for that period.

5. The work may be based on research conducted in Sri Lanka or abroad.

6. The Medal will be presented annually at the GSSL Annual General Meeting.

7. The Medal may not be awarded to the same person more than once.

8. The recipient will be selected by a Sub-committee appointed by the GSSL Executive Committee. The Sub-committee’s decision will be final.
