Guide to Authors


POLICY

Journal of Geological Society of Sri Lanka (JGSSL) is the official journal of the Geological Society of Sri Lanka (GSSL) and aims to publish quality research articles, reviews or communications dealing with all aspects of Earth sciences. It is a bi-annual journal and issued twice per year. Anyone can contribute to the journal provided that the contribution is of interest to Earth scientists pertaining to any aspect of the geosciences in Sri Lanka or those with an international interest with relevance to Sri Lanka. The manuscripts are accepted on the merit of the quality and originality of the research work and its significance to the readership. Submission in the journal is understood to imply that the same is not published elsewhere or to modify a manuscript and other documents as material once submitted.


MANUSCRIPT ORGANIZATION - GUIDE TO AUTHORS

The Soft Copy  of the manuscript should be prepared following the provided template.

AUTHORSHIP should includes the author/s name and affiliation (full address including country). In the case of multi-author papers, it is presumed that all the authors are involved in the work and have approved the manuscript by appending their signatures in the covering letter. Corresponding authors ORCID must be linked to the logo at the authors names section

ABSTRACT around 200 words summarizing the main points made in the paper and the important conclusion arrived at. Provide maximum of 6 keywords with the first letter capitalized. Avoid the words given in the title if possible.

BODY TEXT should be included the subtopics of Introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion and the conclusions.

TABLES AND FIGURES All illustrations should be clearly displayed by leaving at least a single line of spacing above and below them. Figures and graphs should also be large enough for the figure to be clear. Text within figures must be Times New Roman font, as appropriate for the figure. Font sizes for legends should be 8pt (to be legible). Figure captions should appear below the figure. The captions should be clear and simple and should provide sufficient When placing a figure at the top of a page, the top of the figure should be at the same level as the first text line of the other column. Figure captions should be 8 point Times font, centered with the figure, and have 6pt spacing after and 4pt before the captions. The words “Fig. 1.” should be in bold as shown in the example figure in this document. You can also use one column for large figures (Fig. 2).

If you include figures that have already been published elsewhere, you must obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format. Please be aware that some publishers do not grant electronic rights for free, then you are required to obtain necessary permission by paying to the publisher. Sources of Table and Figures taken from already published material must be properly acknowledged.

ABBREVIATIONS of the titles of periodicals mentioned in the list of references, according to the International List of Periodical Title Word Abbreviations. Mineral abbreviations should be according to Whitney and Evans (2010). (Abbreviations for names of rock-forming minerals. American Mineralogist, Volume 95, pages 185–187, 2010)


REFERENCES The references should be brought together at the end of the article. Authors should check whether every reference in the text appears in the list of references and vice versa. The font size for the reference list should be 9pt. Please use a reference manager software to handle/mange your references. Use of IEEE reference style is recommended.

ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION

Electronic submission should be sent as e-mail attachments to Editors, Geological Society of Sri Lanka (editor@gssl.lk) including the covering letter and article prepared using the provided template. Suplimentry materials can be submitted as separate files


PUBLICATION POLICY

Manuscripts not adhering to journal guidelines will be returned to authors without scientific evaluation. Submitted manuscripts adhering to journal guidelines are reviewed by the Co-Editors, who will assign them to reviewers. Every manuscript will be refereed by at least two reviwers. The editor reserves the right to accept or reject any material for publication. When contributions are judged as acceptable for publication on the basis of scientific content, the editor reserves the right to modify typescripts to eliminate ambiguity and repetition and improve communication. If extensive alterations are required, the manuscripts will be returned to the authors for revision. The authors should strictly adhere to the comments made by reviewers while revising the paper. If the authors agree with the comments made by reviewers, the authors should indicate the changes effected in the text. In case where authors disagree with the comments of reviewers, they should indicate the same in a separate sheet giving reasons. The editor will make the final decision concerning the acceptance or rejection of paper.


OFFPRINTS AND COPYRIGHT

Corresponding author will receive a PDF file of the article by email. It is the responsibility of authors to ensure that permission is granted for reproduction of any copyright material, and that this permission is acknowledged in their papers.
